A Study On The Historiography Of Xie Tianyou

Xie Tianyou（1932-1988）,a native of Huangmei County,Hubei Province,a famous Marxist historian in China,mainly engaged in research on the history of Chinese peasant wars,the history of ancient Chinese economic thought,and psychohistory.His career has experienced several drastic changes in China in the 20 th century,and his thinking and academics have also undergone important changes.Writing history by historians is（a kind of）historiography.Summarizing and exploring Xie Tianyou’s historical research is of great significance for understanding the complex life course of a generation of scholars and the development of Marxist historiography in the second half of the 20 th century.This article takes Xie Tianyou’s life and historical research as the object of investigation,and combines social changes in China in the 20 th century with social factors such as the development of historiography.characteristics,and make a proper positioning and evaluation of Xie Tianyou’s historical achievements.From the perspective of diachronic and type,this article starts with four parts:Xie Tianyou’s life history and important historical research in different periods.The first chapter examines Xie Tianyou’s life experience,knowledge background and academic career from the background of the political changes of Chinese society,the fate of intellectuals and the wave of historiography in the middle and late 20 th century.The second and third chapters focus on Xie Tianyou’s historical research results,and comment on his academic achievements and specific characteristics of the history of Chinese peasant wars and the history of ancient Chinese economic thought from the context of academic history.The fourth chapter focuses on analyzing his thoughts on history and reality,authoritarianism in the 1980 s,and then makes a macroscopic summary of his academic thinking for more than 30 years.Throughout his academic life,we can find that Xie Tianyou is not only a historian,but also a thinker.History,theory and reality are intertwined with each other,filling his tortuous academic life that came to an abrupt end in his prime.
