A Report On The Translation Of Multi Text Types Based On Typology Theory

In this translation practice report,the author classified the source texts into three types.All of them are expressive text,informative text and vocative text on account of Newmark’s Typology Theory.By applying Semantic Translation Theory and Communicative Translation Theory,the author analyzed,translated and modified the texts.The original texts of the report came from the translation project the author joined at Youdao Artificial Translation Department.The original texts contain multiple text types and cover a wide range of fields.This report analyzed all three text types.Research on analyzing all the three text types at the same time is of significance as most of the case studies on text typology focus on one type or two types.This report consists of five sections.First,it introduced the project background,characteristics of the source texts as well as the requirements of translation.The second part is about the theoretical foundation and source texts analysis.Typology theory classified the texts into many categories,the most prominent types of those categories are expressive text,informative text and vocative text.According to Newmark’s theory,semantic translation strategy is applied to translate expressive texts and communicative translation is used for translating informative texts and vocative texts.The original texts were also exhibited and analyzed in this report.The third part introduced the translation process which includes translating preparation,translation process and translation modification.The fourth part is the most vital part.It is case study.All the texts were divided into 3 types.Different translation strategies were adopted for unlike types.Semantic translation strategy is applied to expressive texts and communicative translation strategy is applied to informative and vocative texts.At last,the whole translation process was briefly summarized.The findings of the report was displayed.This report provides a more comprehensive perspective of multiple text types in translation.The corresponding strategies were also presented.
