| The source text of this translation report is the first chapter of A Year at the Ch(?)teau: as Seen on the Hit Channel 4 Show.In the first chapter,the writer recounts the interesting events of the first month of the family’s move from England to a French ch(?)teau.In recent years,with the increasingly close contacts,there are frequent economy and cultural exchanges among countries.As translations of foreign masterpieces have became best sellers in China,readers also want to learn more about foreign works in order to enhance their personal cultural heritage and knowledge.This report begins with an overview of the background and significance of the chosen topic and an analysis of the author and the linguistic features of the original text.And then,the report highlights the translation difficulties encountered in the translation process and provides corresponding methods.The report starts from lexical level and syntactic level,and discusses the respective Chinese translation methods to address the problems of English-Chinese linguistic differences and English-Chinese syntactic differences.For example,the translation of proper nouns,part of speech and words without corresponding equivalents are studied at the lexical level,and the translation methods be chosen to solve them are transliteration,footnotes,conversion of part of speech and semantic extension.All these can ensure the suitable transformation between English and Chinese.At the syntactic level,the text contains a large number of sentences with dashes as well as sentences that are semantically difficult to understand.Methods in translating sentences with dashes,division and reinventing sentence structures are used to make it fluent for the readers.Through this translation practice,the translator gains some translation experience,meanwhile the translator learns that there is still a long way to go to produce a faultless translation.The translator wrote a report on the experience gained from this translation practice in order to provide a reference for future translators of such texts. |
