The source text of this report “Getting Started in Ballet: A Parent's Guide to Dance Education(Second Edition)” is written by professional ballet dancer Anna Paskevska from the Art Institute of Chicago(SAIC).With a clear and understandable style,the book provides readers with clear information on ballet expertise,diet,sports rehabilitation and employment.The source text is of great academic and practical value,and is significant for the dissemination of ballet research in China.This report probes into translation strategies of ballet texts from word and sentence level,focusing on ballet related terminologies,abstract words,complex sentences and passive sentences.In terms of word translation,we mainly adopt the strategies of word meaning selection,word meaning extension and conventional translation.In the translation of complex sentences,we applied division and restructuring.As for the translation of passive sentences,we mainly translate them into active sentences,sentences with different passive labels and subjectless sentences.It is hoped that this report can provide some references for the translation of ballet texts. |
