Abstract/Summary:
This report is about a practice report on the English-Chinese translation of Oil and Gas Pipelines and Piping Systems(Excerpt).By reviewing materials, the translator translates Chapter 16 of the book after studying the basic structure and fundamental operating principles of oil and gas pipelines. The translator discusses the doubts and difficulties in translating texts on oil and gas pipelines and summarizes the strategies and techniques when translating scientific and technical texts. The translator completes the entire report from four parts: task description, process description, case analysis and conclusion. The translation practice is guided by the Skopos theory of the functional school Hans Vermeer, which studies and analyzes scientific and technical texts, especially petrochemical texts. The translator summarizes some translation strategies for petrochemical texts according to this translation practice. This report focuses on the lexical and syntax characteristics of scientific and technical texts, and illustrates the role of Skopos theory in guiding the translation of specific words and sentences. This translation practice emphasizes that in translation process, the target language should convey the ideas of the source text accurately and comprehensively with a deep understanding and ensure the accuracy, comprehensiveness and fluency of the translation.
