From time immemorial Taiwan has been an inalienable part of the Chinese territory. It is every Chinese’s compelling obligation and responsibility to maintain our country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. After the Japan’s defeat in 1945, the long occupied Taiwan islands returned to Chinese sovereignty. From then in terms of modern law and modern international intercourse it was re-established that all Taiwan’s land, people, government affairs, etc. are under Chinese sovereignty. In 1949 the defeated Kuomintang government retreated to Taiwan, taking a breath and waiting for a chance to counter-attack China’s mainland, but even so it never attempted to break up the Chinese territory. However, some foreign forces blatantly intervened in our country’s internal affairs for their own interests. Besides, the separatists in Taiwan kept adding fuel to the flames. All this makes Taiwan an unsolved problem. In 1971 the General Assembly of the United Nations recognized the delegates of the People’s Republic of China as China’s exclusive and legitimate representatives. Since then the government of the People’s Republic of China has taken the place of Kuomintang government to exercise China’s sovereignty in the international society. The problem of sovereignty is non-discussible. On the premise of One China, our party has been making its tireless efforts to realize an early unification across the Taiwan Strait. After the consistent efforts for near 60 years, the countrymen across the Strait have gradually reached a shared understanding of anti-separatism and anti-independence, which was quite well proved by the referendum on March 22.The new century is confronted with new situations at home and abroad. We believed in that, led by the Chinese Communist, accelerated by the positive international advocacy, with the collective efforts of the countrymen across the Strait, the countrymen residing abroad and all people from the whole world for peace and against separatism, it is absolutely certain to find a right way to accomplish our country’s unification.
