Analysis Of Moon Jae-in Administration’s Policy Toward North Korea

The Korean Peninsula is located in the core area of Northeast Asia,which has special strategic significance.From a geopolitical perspective,the Korean Peninsula is a bridge connecting the mainland and the ocean and is surrounded by the sea on three sides.Since ancient times,the Korean Peninsula has been the focus to interpenetration and competition among the great powers and it is known as the eastern Balkan.After the end of the cold war,profound changes took place in the international situation,and the Korean Peninsula also experienced ups and downs.The situation on the Korean peninsula not only affects the immediate interests of the two Koreas,but also directly affects the security of China’s surroundings and the peace and stability in Northeast Asia and the entire Asia-Pacific region.Since 2018,North Korea has continuously released signals of easing,and the Moon Jae-in government took the opportunity of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics Games to promote the policy on North Korea with the central concept of peace..With the active interaction and mutual response between South Korea and North Korea,the two sides have continuously strengthened contact and communication,and eased the tension.The U.S.and North Korean summit after the South Korean and North Korean summit in Panmunjom on April 27 will improve US-North Korean relations;The positions and policies of neighboring powers have undergone further changes which are conducive to the stability of the Korean Peninsula.The dawn of peace on the Korean Peninsula appears.These developments have injected warmth into the Korean Peninsula and the world,and the situation on the Korean Peninsula has again become the focus of the international.However,the solution of the Korean Peninsula issue doesn’t work out overnight.The denuclearization of the peninsula as well as the relationship between North Korea and the United States are fragile,unstable and uncertain.The peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula still face many challenges.After taking office,Moon Jae-yin readjusted relations with Northeast Asian powers such as China,the United States,Japan,and Russia;promoted reconciliation of North-South Korean and denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula;boost the cooperation with the four major neighboring countries at the aim of forming the conception of "Northeast Asia+Responsibility Community" etc.and eventually achieving the peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula.Moon Jae-in hopes that South Korea would play a leading role in Peninsula affairs.However,due to many factors,there are still many problems in policies on North Korea waiting to be solved by Moon Jae-in government.
