This paper is a critical reflection of Leo Strauss’s discussion of the quarrel of the ancients and the mordens and makes an in-depth discussion of the following four questions:The contradictions that Strauss’s way of dealing with the crisis of modernity faces; The weakness of Strauss’s critique of Modernity; The theoretical predicament of classical rationalism advocated by Strauss himself and the possibility of absolute value on the basis of the previous discussions.Through the analysis, the following four conclusions are obtained:The possible way Strauss advocates to return to the ancients is in contradiction with its classical contents;Strauss’s critique of modernity is mainly by resorting to consequences rather than falsification; The classical rationalism advocated by Strauss is also questionable by the reason that the whole is fundamentally unknowable; The absolute value of human nature is not possible because of the multiplicity of human nature, the logical irrelevance of good and eternity, the theoretical contradiction of the existence of self-evident good and other reasons.
