| The secularization of Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP)government is based on the three ideologies of the Five Principles,Integral Humanism and Hindutva. The purpose is to build India into a fair and equal country and a truly secular country that conforms to the Indian cultural values. Most studies regard the political line of BJP as a religious nationalism that deviates from Indian secularism, and regard it as a sectarian party. It is obviously not objective to judge BJP only by sectarianism, especially in the late 1990s.BJP’s desalination of extreme sectarianism in the election manifesto, party constitution and policy shows that BJP has moved closer to secularism. However,it should be noted that BJP’s secularism is obviously different from that in the Indian constitution. What it really pursues is a democratic politics based on majoritarianism.Considering the feelings of Hindus,it advocates the equal development of all religions. The country is established on the coexistence of multiple religions and gradually takes back the special rights given to Indian Muslim groups at the beginning of independence. It is on this basis that the BJP government implements the process of secularization of the country with its new interpretation of secularism. This paper discusses the secularism of India, the secular view of the BJP,and the secular construction of the BJP’s government, explore how the BJP,which pursues Hindu nationalism, can build India into a secular country. The final conclusion is that the BJP,under the reinterpretation of secularism, takes advantage of the legitimacy of political practice given to the party by the Constitution of India to walk out a secular road of Hindu nationalism which combines development, nationalism and Hindu identity. |
