The Achievement And Challenge Of Germany’s Intervention In Afghanistan After 9/11(2001-2020)

In the current globalized world,relations between sovereign states are one of its main features of today’s international system and requirement.This thesis answer why Afghanistan and Germany need engagement in post 9/11 Era? And how were the relations between Afghanistan and Germany,and to what level Germany involved in Afghanistan? Though After the 9/11 attacks,many Western countries’ relations and role are increased in Afghanistan,including Germany.The involvement of Germany and bilateral relations between Afghanistan and Germany are multidimensional and mutually beneficial.Germany’s role and involvement increased in Afghanistan and significantly contributed in different departments such as economic,political and defense areas of Afghanistan.Germany has valuable contributions in operations against terrorists,the establishment of the Afghan Army,and police.Germany has also huge contributions to Afghanistan’s reconstruction,provided huge economic aid,constructed many educational institutions,helped in the communication sector reconstruction,and rebuilt the wartorn country.Germany has also played a significant role in the training of Afghan officials and bureaucrats.Germany has also focused on Afghanistan’s economic development as she is following liberal approach that peace and stability are brought through economic development.The political,economic,and strategic cooperation opened new opportunities that they have fully utilized Germany’s economic cooperation with Afghanistan and its huge investment in different fields to achieve policy goals.Germany’s active involvement in various parts of Afghanistan is evidence of Germany’s commitment to long-term cooperation with Afghanistan.Germany’s role and involvement in Afghanistan from 2001 to 2020 has played a very positive and constructive function in rebuilding Afghanistan on the one hand and in peace and stability.Her devotion shows that she has exceptional commitment and aims to bring out Afghanistan from the current war and destabilization.Germany also played an important role in Operation Enduring Freedom and deployed many troops and equipment in the most destabilized area and got many notable achievements.This thesis has been divided in five chapters.The first chapter is an introduction that addresses the study findings,gaps,research objectives,research questions,methodology of the research,main argument of the thesis,significance of the study and the literature review.The second chapter is exploring the history of Afghanistan-Germany Relations.It consists of German expedition of 1915,the treaty of friendship between Germany and Afghanistan in 1926,the Post World War II period,the relation during the post-German unification period,and the phenomenon before the 2001 period in detail.The third chapter deals with the era of Afghanistan and Germany relations from 2001 to 2020.It consists of relations in the transformations in Afghanistan and Germany participation Germany role in operation enduring freedom,Germany aid to Afghanistan,Germany role in the reconstruction of Afghanistan,and Afghanistan-Germany bilateral relations.The fourth chapter is Challenges in AfghanistanGermany Relations.It discussed in detail the existing challenges in the relations of both the countries that affect Germany’s performance in Afghanistan.It discusses terrorism,lack of coordination,political instability in Afghanistan,Germany public opinion on the Afghanistan conflict,lack of basic infrastructure,and warlords.The fifth chapter concludes that Germany’s relations with Afghanistan from 2001 to 2020 and its role in the country is significant and contributed many services in the restoration of peace and fighting terrorism.It also played an essential role in the county’s socio-economic development and uplifting the war-torn society.Their relations are based on mutual respect and benefits.
