As a derivative of plastics, microplastics has had a stronger negative impact on marine environment in recent years. In fact,over-discharge of plastic products into the ocean has resulted in micro-plastics contamination, which has already violated existing international law.In terms of international conventions and agreements, the London Convention,MARPOL73/78,the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea,the Basel Convention and the Stockholm Convention are all mandatory legal documents; In terms of regional regulations, the Helsinki Convention, the United Nations Environment Programme Regional Seas Project and the Oslo Convention all provide a legal basis for the prevention and control of pollution in the regional marine microplastics; In terms of softlaw documents and international actions, the Global Program of Action, the Honolulu Strategy and the United Nations General Assembly have all contributed guidelines to the prevention and control of pollution. However, there are many difficulties in the actual implementation of the nternational law system, such as the lack of systematic and professional legislation, the different fulfillment of legal obligations for the prevention and control of marine microplastic pollution among countries and the lack of existing legislative enforcement mechanisms. For this reason, the international community should consciously abide by international conventions and the guidance of the United Nations, and invoke the moral power of international law.China should improve relevant laws and regulations and increase policy support.Only when every country takes action can we effectively prevent and control marine microplastics pollution and improve the global environment.
