As one of the untouched places on earth, the Arctic Ocean and Seas have many natural resources, such as oil and gas. With the melting of sea ice,the Arctic Ocean and Seas are experiencing a longer ice-free period, which provides people with opportunities to exploit oil resources. However, the harsh environment and extreme weather also bring hardships to oil drilling operations. This thesis adopts "the prevention of oil pollution in the Arctic Ocean and Seas from international laws' perspective " as topic, and chapter 1 illustrates the definition of the Arctic Ocean and Seas and the international laws which regulate oil drilling operations in this area.Chapters 2 and 3 focus on introducing the existing international conventions, regional agreements and some related policies from micro perspective. The author also analyses the shortcomings of these legal and political materials and provides suggestions about how to improve it.From macro perspective,in chapter 4,the author states briefly on shortcomings of these existing international legal documents as a whole and make suggestions about how to protect Arctic waters. At present, there are no substantive pollution standards to regulate offshore oil drilling activities, and many scholars offer ideas to solve these problems. The author thought that the Arctic Council should provide guidelines to help Arctic countries set up these standards.China,as a permanent observer, should make contributions to Arctic' s marine environment.
