With the passage of time and rapid urbanization, the pattern of traditional settlements and traditional houses have been seriously damaged. In response to the call of the 19 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China ’ s “ Rural Revitalization Strategy,” this paper takes the traditional settlements and dwellings of the Dai nationality in southern Yunnan and the Zhuang nationality in northern Guangxi as the research objects, and uses the research methods of investigation, multidisciplinary synthesis, comparative study and systematic induction to conduct a comparative study of the traditional settlements and traditional dwellings of the two ethnic groups, and to obtain the influencing factors,so as to provide some reference for the protection and renewal of the traditional villages in the two regions. The research content of this paper includes three parts.First of all, through reading the literature, combing the cultural history of the two nationalities, and then through the actual survey and mapping,a comprehensive understanding of the settlement space form of the Dai nationality in southern Yunnan and the Zhuang nationality in northern Guangxi, the traditional dwellings of dry railings, and finally the natural environment and human environment of the two places are compared and analyzed, and the similarities and differences in the natural environment and human environment are obtained.Secondly, the DEM data(30 resolution)of five Dai villages in southern Yunnan and ancient Zhuang villages and Ping ’ an villages in northern Guangxi were extracted by geographic spatial data cloud, and remote sensing satellite images were downloaded by Arc Map and Google Map.The elevation, slope, aspect, water environment and land resources of the two places were analyzed, and the influence of natural environment on the external spatial form of ethnic settlement was obtained.Secondly, through Kevin Lynch ’ s five elements of space theory to compare the internal space form of the two traditional settlements,it is concluded that the difference in the internal space form is to adapt to different human environment and natural geographical environment. Finally, this paper sorts out the research data of houses in the two places are collated and studied from the four aspects of the basic characteristics, plane morphology, structural system and decorative art of traditional houses. It is revealed that the root cause of the differences between the two houses is the combined effect of different human environment and natural geographical environment.Through the above research and comparison, the reasons for the differences between the traditional settlements and dwellings of Dai ethnic group in southern Yunnan and Zhuang ethnic group in northern Guangxi and the similar internal laws are obtained, and the collection of architectural elements is constructed, which provides important planning and development information for the implementation of the rural revitalization strategy in the future. It is concluded that there are many factors affecting the formation of different ethnic settlements. The main reason is that the natural geographical environment,socio-economic and cultural environment and other factors have caused the differences of different ethnic settlements.Natural factors play a dominant role in the formation of the external spatial form of settlements. The differences in the spatia l form of settlements and the traditional dwellings are the products of natural and social factors.Only by following the regional differences and national cultural differences can rural settlements be more multicultural, and we can retain the bright national culture, inherit and carry forward it,and retain nostalgia and eternal memory.
