Narrative Research On Sexual Abuse Of Children In Mainstream Media

In recent years,the incidents of sexual abuse of children have frequently aroused public concern.Because of the particularity and sensitivity of reports on sexual abuse of children,it is of great significance to promote China’s legal system construction,public opinion guidance and social stability.However,there are few reports on sexual abuse of children in the field of journalism and communication,and most previous studies combined with news frame theory to analyze the reports on sexual abuse of children,but not from the perspective of news narratology.Combined with the theory of news narratology,this paper makes a systematic study on the reports of sexual abuse of children in two mainstream media,Legal Daily and Southern Metropolis Daily,from 2011 to 2020,mainly by means of text analysis,supplemented by descriptive statistical analysis and comparative analysis,in order to explore the presentation and narrative characteristics of news reports of sexual abuse of children in mainstream media in China.Personal research found that in the content presentation,the number of reports in the two newspapers generally showed an upward trend,and the news sources mostly came from government agencies and public officials,and the presentation form was mainly news.The report contents included case statements,policies and regulations,etc.The overall report was objective and neutral.In the performance of news narration,most of the narrators are open narrators,who directly express their views and show their position tendency;Adopt compound narrative perspective to transmit news information in an all-round way;Reasonable arrangement of narrative time to enhance the sense of rhythm of reporting;The narrative structure is flexible and changeable,which enhances the hierarchical sense of news narrative;Construct a variety of narrative frameworks to guide the positive development of public opinion.In view of the problems existing in the narrative of sexual abuse of children in mainstream media,this paper puts forward some strategies to improve the narrative of sexual abuse of children: to prevent the recurrence of details and avoid secondary harm;Prevent group labels and crack sexual assault stereotypes;Balanced narrative point of view,presented from multiple perspectives;Digging deep into cases and reducing narrative solidification;Popularize legal knowledge and highlight professionalism.
