Abstract/Summary:
From September 1847 to January 1848,Marx successively issued two speeches:Protecting Tariffs,Free Traders and the Working Class and Speech on Free Trade. At this time,Marx mainly concerned himself with two problems :(1)the development of the proletariat and its situation;(2)The way out for the proletariat. In the Protecting Tariffs,Free Traders and the Working Class,Marx based on typical countries(Germany)society present a more inclined to protect the tariffs on analysis of the German social development is the relatively backward, the feudal remnants are still,at all levels in the social development from Germany and in the capitalist development period of the class interests,It reveals the antagonism between the proletariat and the bourgeoisie, the impoverishment and the oppression behind the protective tariff,as well as the development and awakening of the proletariat. In the Speech on Free Trade,Marx took Britain as an example.Because of the complete completion of the bourgeoisie revolution,Britain presented a stronger power of the bourgeoisie,so it was more inclined to implement the free trade system.Marx analyzes the exploitation and oppression of the bourgeoisie and the hardship of the proletariat under the free trade system through concrete examples. On this basis,it fully expounds the "false nature" of the free trade group defending capitalism, and further expounds the inevitability of the proletarian revolution with the growth and awakening of the proletariat. In two speech,Marx from the perspective of the proletariat, whether taking protective tariffs(Germany)system(UK)or a free trade system, its essence is the capitalist exploitation and oppression of workers and its extreme poverty, followed by the growth of the proletariat, awakening, and the necessity of revolutionary struggle,Although set protective duties, free trade benefits the laborer to various claims that its system, but it turns out that no matter from the basic rule of political economics or from the hire labor to get the minimum wage to analysis, all showed their argumentation and defense of falsity, shows the capitalist system of the essence of exploitation and oppression of the proletariat.Workers must take action against injustice.Marx’s two speeches laid an important theoretical and practical foundation for the Communist Manifesto published later. It was in the thinking and understanding of tariff protection and free trade that Marx(including Engels)further established the thought and theory of the proletariat and its revolution, which reached maturity and was expressed in a perfect form in the Communist Manifesto.
