The Relationship Between Senior High School Students’ Perception Of Parents’ Expectation And Study Engagement

Abstract/Summary:
This research mainly analyzed the subject matter by the use of the Parents’ Expectation Perception Questionnaire,Academic Self-regulation Questionnaire,and Study Engagement Questionnaire.463 students from two high schools in Nanning and Zhumadian were selected randomly to be investigated.The main aim of this research is to make the family factors play a very vital role,which exert a strong influence on students that students can be encouraged to produce self-determined motivation which helps themselves to give full effort into learning.After analyzing the relationship among the perception of parents’ expectations,study engagement and self-determined motivation,the research reached the following conclusions:(1)The perception of Sophomores in high school of their parents’ expectations of future achievements,behavior performance and interpersonal relationship is higher than that of seniors and freshmen in high school.It shows that the expectation perception of sophomores in high school is higher than that of freshmen and seniors in high school.The physical and mental quality of seniors in high school is higher than sophomores and freshmen in high school.The relative autonomy level of sophomores in high school is higher than that of seniors in high school.The relative autonomy level of seniors in high school is higher than that of freshmen in high school.Whether students have siblings or not has a significant difference in the level of relative autonomy.It is clear that the relative autonomy level of only child is higher than that of non-only child.In addition,the learning engagement,concentration and dedication of seniors in high school are slightly higher than those of freshmen and sophomores in high school.Urban high school students have higher levels of learning engagement than rural high school students.The level of learning engagement and all dimensions of the only child are significantly higher than that of the non-only child.(2)All dimensions of high school students’ expectation of their parents are related to the relative autonomy level of self-determination motivation.The relative autonomy level of selfdetermination motivation is related to the learning engagement.High school students’ positive perceptions of their parents’ academic performance,moral performance and physical and mental qualities are all investing in predictive learning,and high school students’ perceptions of their parents’ expected academic performance,future achievements,physical and mental qualities and the relative autonomy level of self-determination motivation predict learning engagement.(3)In some ways,the self-determination motivation of high school students plays a partial intermediary role between parents’ expectation perception and learning engagement.In other words,high school students’ perceptions of their parents’ academic performance,moral performance and physical and mental qualities not only directly affect study engagement,but also partially influences study engagement by self-determined motivation.
