| The successful bid for the Beijing Olympic Winter Games in 2022 has brought opportunities for the development of skiing in China. The national policy strongly supports the promotion and popularization of skiing. However, due to the late start of skiing in China, the participation rate of skiing is low.As the participants of skiing,Residents’ perception of the skiing constraints will result in their inability, reluctance or reduce participation of skiing.Which skiing constraints restrict or limit residents from participating of skiing? How do skiing constraints affect residents’ behavior intention of skiing? Therefore, from the perspective of residents’ perception and based on the theory of leisure constraints, this research discussed the skiing constraints facing the Chinese residents and investigated the impact of skiing constraints on behavior intention by integrating the planned behavior theory(TPB)and the theory of leisure constraints. It will contribute to the reduction of skiing constraints and promote the behavior intention.First,in terms of the literature review and the theory of leisure constraints, this research developed the measurement scale of skiing constraints and designed the questionnaire.Taking the residents in southern city of China Chengdu as the respondents, using the designed questionaire collected sample data.Second, the dimension of skiing constraints was identified by exploratory factor analysis. Finally,By adding the skiing constraints variable to the theory of planned behavior to extend the TPB model, the research constructed theoretical model which was skiing constraints on behavior intention and raised research hypothesis.Based on the Sample of 316 residents in Chengdu,a structural equation model(SEM)path empirical analysis was conducted.Drawn the conclusions from empirical research, and provided reference suggestions for government departments and ski companies. This study drawn the following conclusions.(1)In the context of China, the exploratory factor analysis had identified five dimensions of skiing constraints:personal feelings and attitudes, knowledge and skills, lack of partners, facilities and services, and time.(2)Skiing constraints had significantly negative impact on behavior attitudes, subjective norns and perceivied behavior control,of which the negative impact on perceived behavior control was the largest, the negative impact on subjective norms was second, and the negative impact on behavior attitudes was least.(3)Behavior attitudes, subjective norns and perceivied behavior control had significantly positive impact on the skiing behavior intention,of which the most positive influence is the perceived behavioral control, followed by subjective norms, and the least impact was behavior attitudes.(4)Perceived behavior control had a significant mediating effect between the skiing constraints and behavior intention. However, behavior attitudes and subjective norms had no significant mediating effects on skiing constraints and behavior intention.According to the research conclusions, the following practical suggestions were proposed from the perspectives of government departments and ski companies:(1)Creating well skiing culture atmosphere.(2)Guiding the public to establish a positive skiing attitude.(3)Bulding a scientific and high-quality ski industry system. In summary, the significance of this study is that the theory of leisure constraints was applied to the context of China for the first time.Based on this theory, the dimensions of skiing constraints was identifed, which enhanced the understanding of skiing constraints facing the residents.Secondly, the innovative extension of TPB model provided insights into the the influence of skiing constraints on behavior intention. From the perspective of reducing the influence of ski constraints and increasing the intention to participate in skiing,it provided practical suggestions for government departments and ski companies. |
