| Fei Xiaotong lived in an era of science and tradition,academy and politics,radicalism and turbulence.During this period,he realized that the Chinese people’s pain was caused by the poverty caused by the society,so he chose sociology without hesitation,striving to understand the society and even reform the society.Between ideal and reality,Fei Xiaotong’s vision falls behind.The introduction of western sociology into China can not take root directly.On the contrary,a series of research methods and purposes of western sociology are in great conflict with the reality of China.At the right time,Wu Wenzao put forward the idea of "Sinicization of sociology",and Parker advocated the field study of different social life,which pointed out the direction for Fei Xiaotong’s academic road and became the academic proposition he explored all his life.Fei Xiaotong’s local academic practice has both micro level operation and macro level design.In his early studies,he was deeply influenced by Western functionalism.He studied Jiangcun with the help of community survey and functionalism theory,which realized an effective attempt of the localization of western theory.In the 1940s,Fei Xiaotong found three different village patterns in Yunnan,and thus explored four main patterns of Chinese villages at the horizontal level,and successfully practiced the type comparative study.Fei Xiaotong’s localization research path shows the characteristics from small to large,from refined to extensive.In the later stage of research,he changed from the horizontal level to the vertical level,and the research objects changed from the initial villages to towns,and then to cities and regions,thus forming a situation of "the whole country playing chess".Fei Xiaotong is particularly concerned about rural issues.His research perspective is from the institutional changes brought about by rural economic changes to the study of the corresponding local ethics system.The reason is that this set of local social structure is not only the "giant chain of existence" in Chinese people’s thought for thousands of years,but also the place of national character.With his keen observation and profound insight,Fei Xiaotong refined such theories and concepts as"the differential mode of association","rule of rites order","dual track politics" and"cultural consciousness",which provided a set of ideal "conceptual tools" for the analysis of China’s native soil and realized the localization of academic concepts in the process of exploration.These concepts,which are the combination of reality and imagination,provide another explanation dimension for the local society.Fei Xiaotong made a lot of achievements in the localization of sociology,which played a role in breaking and entering the topic for the development of this proposition.More importantly,he brought a lot of inspiration:he insisted on integrating subjects with the guidance of problem consciousness,rather than cutting problems with disciplinary thinking.In the localization research,we should balance the relationship between quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis,and explore the scope of application of both sides.Looking for local resources,and the interpretation of the historical tradition and small tradition,pay attention to the hidden side of the small tradition.We should dare to question the western social science theory and reverse it.There are deep-rooted dualistic thinking in western academic circles,such as theory and experience/practice,discourse/expression and practice,morality and law,market and country,tradition and modern,China and the West.On the contrary,we should try to put aside the characteristics of theoretical contradiction and conflict,and pay attention to the coexistence of duality and its connection,tension and interaction. |
