From the Soil —The Foundations of Chinese Society is famous as one of Fei Xiaotong’s representative works. The five works that accompany him are Peasant Life in China,Three Villages in Yunnan,Rural areas in China’s interior,Rural Reconstruction, etc. These five works constitute Fei Xiaotong’s basic thoughts on rural social research, which contain rich economic and philosophical foundation. It has great theoretical significance for us to study the trend of rural vitalization and development today. The research paradigm initiated by Fei Xiaotong in his five works is of great inspiration for us to understand the trend of social change in China, especially the characteristics of social transformation. At present,in the background of rural revitalization,Chinese countryside is in the process of accelerating transformation,we need to inherit Fei Xiaotong’s method, and make in-depth comparison of his research on rural social change and contemporary progress. Therefore,in the traditional ethical characteristics of Chinese rural society, thinking about how to stimulate rural economic vitality and promote urban and rural development in modern society has important theoretical value for practicing rural revitalization and realizing common prosperity. This paper begins with a complete and systematic grasp of the economic texts in Fei Xiaotong’s important works, combs the logical context of them with the method of economic philosophy, further summarizes from the height of the spirit of The Times, and extracts the contemporary significance of Fei Xiaotong’s five works. It focuses on the comparison of the history of Chinese rural changes in Fei Xiaotong’s vision and the great changes in the countryside under the background of the current rural revitalization strategy to sort out the logical connection and historical continuity. We summarize Fei Xiaotong’s development path to achieve prosperity in China’s rural areas and the strategy to achieve common prosperity in contemporary China’s rural revitalization. On this basis,we put forward theoretical reflection and countermeasures. This paper argues that people’s dominant position should be emphasized, and population factor is the key factor to promote the reconstruction of new urban and rural relations and the integration of urban and rural development.Re-examining the relationship between population and land is of great significance for understanding the relationship between man and land separated from labor and residence in the new period, and alleviating the problem of inadequate development of rural economy and unbalanced development of urban and rural economy. In this paper,we should give full play to the driving role of the two-way flow of population factors in the relationship between urban and rural areas, develop and strengthen the rural collective economy with new farmers as the core, and strengthen the county economic construction between urban and rural areas,so as to promote the rural revitalization,so as to realize the historical goal of rural revitalization, even the national rejuvenation, which the people have been looking forward to since Fei Xiaotong.
