“Chemical bonding” is one of the core concepts in the compulsory course of high school chemistry, which is of great value in understanding the nature of chemical change. However, the concept of chemical bonding is highly abstract, which leads to difficulties in students’ understanding and the alternative frameworks.Integration of existing macro-micro-symbolic representation of the triplet representation is under the background of face-to-face classroom teaching implementation, because this study took place in early 2020 COVID-19 outbreak background, our country elementary and middle schools generally adopt the method of on-line teaching on network teaching, explore how to develop triplet representation of teaching under the network technical support has become a challenge and problem solving. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to promote the students’ study and deep understanding of the concept of chemical bonding by adopting the teaching of chemical triplet representation with the support of network technology. This study firstly combs and analyzes the existing study contents about chemical bonding, students’ alternative frameworks about chemical bonding, teaching strategies of chemical bonding, teaching strategies of triplet representation, online teaching, etc. On this basis,a general teaching idea based on chemical triplet representation is constructed. In order to realize the teaching of triplet representation supported by network technology, according to the content characteristics of the section on chemical bonding, this study integrated chemical virtual experiment into the macro representation to show the endothermic and exothermic phenomena of chemical reactions, and used molecular workbench to present the particles and their interactions in the microscopic representation. With the support of network technology, chemical virtual experiment and molecular workbench realize each student’s hands-on operation on their own computer, which is different from the classroom environment in which the triplet representation teaching is carried out only by teachers. After that, this study adopted the design of the experimental group and control group pre-and-post testing, and selected two classes of a high school with a total of 83 students to participate in the study.Relying on the “Classroom in the Air” network platform,a three-hour teaching design of chemical bonding was designed based on triplet representations, and a one-week online teaching practice was carried out.The students in the experimental group and the control group were pre-test and post-test respectively by means of the adapted measurement tool for understanding the concept of chemical bonding. The pre-test and post-test questionnaires were distributed and collected through the online survey platform. In order to measure the effect of teaching intervention on students’ understanding of the concept of chemical bonding,a duplicate questionnaire with the same difficulty as the pre-test was set up after teaching.By comparing the results before and after the test of the experimental group or the control group,we can understand the changes of students’ understanding of chemical bonding under different teaching interventions. In addition,by comparing the post-test results of the experimental group and the control group,it can be found that the specific performance of triplet representation teaching in promoting students’ conceptual understanding compared with knowledge-based teaching. The results show that the teaching of triplet representation significantly promotes students’ understanding of the concept of chemical bonding, especially their understanding of the theme of“chemical bonding and material changes” and “chemical bonding and energy changes”.Compared with the control group, the proportion of students’ alternative frameworks about chemical bonding in the experimental group was significantly lower than that in the control group in terms of(1)understanding the cause of the formation of chemical bonding,(2)applying chemical bonding to analyze the composition of substances,and(3)the symbolic representation of chemical bonding. This is not only because the experimental group attaches great importance to the understanding and conversion of different levels of representations, but also because of the perfect combination of network technology and triplet representations, which makes the macro representation experience more profound, the micro world more visible, and the symbolic representation significance more prominent.
