The Influence Of Women’s Status On Marriage Stability

Family is the most basic cell to form the society,while marriage is the key link to the conclusion of a family and also the establishment of dual parenting.As a major event in the course of personal life,marriage plays an irreplaceable role in the progress of human civilization,the stable development of society and the cultivation of children.For women,choosing marriage not only means pursuing happiness,but also means undertaking family and social responsibilities.In recent years,women’s social status and family status are changing with the improvement of education level,income and the proportion of political participation.They are gradually enhanced the autonomy in marriage decision-making,family power,childbearing behavior.At the same time,the stability of marriage in China is weakening,and the divorce rate is increasing year by year.Although the relationship between husband and wife of equality and mutual assistance has become the mainstream,the role expectations of women in modern society still tend to the family field,and the influence of women’s social status and family status on marriage stability is also quite complex.Throughout the previous studies,scholars mostly research the influence of women’s marital stability from the perspective of social background,marital capital,but did not clarify the relationship between women’s status and marital stability.Based on the data of the third issue of Chinese women’s social status survey in2010,this paper expounds the influence of women’s status on marriage stability,and further discusses the differences between urban and rural areas.Through the analysis of sample characteristics and regression model,the author found that: the overall marriage stability of women maintained at a high level,married with a spouse still occupied most of the life course of the individual.In terms of social status,the improvement of women’s education level,occupation stratification and annual personal income will have a negative impact on the stability of marriage,while the political status of party members and political participation behavior will have a positive impact on the stability of marriage.At the same time,women with chronic diseases or physical disabilities are more likely to disintegrate their marriage.In terms of family status,the marriage of "right family" is always relatively stable,while the family which wife’s economic status are better or dissatisfaction with family status will have a certain negative impact on their marriage stability.At the level of individual characteristics,age,nationality,urban and rural areas,number of children,age of first marriage,gender role concept will have a significant impact on the stability of marriage.Compared with young women,middle-aged women are more likely to break up their marriage;the marriage status of ethnic minority women and urban women is unstable;the number of children plays a protective role in the stability of women’s marriage,in addition,if women have the more modern concept of gender role,their stability of marriage are trend to be lower.It can be seen that women’s status has a significant impact on marriage stability.Women in different social status and family status have significant differences in marriage stability.It also enlightens us that we should actively advocate harmonious marriage relationship,caring women and provide more welfare for them,relieve their pressure in career and family,so as to improve the women’s marriage satisfaction and quality of life.
