The object of this article is the child restraint movement that occurred in China from 1922to1936.For this movement, intellectuals at that time and later in different periods carried out multiple constructions and criticisms. Most of the criticisms in this movement focused on the nationalist and feminist. This article intends to criticize the ideological history of this modern Chinese fertility revolution.Through a perspective comparison of the development of modern Western and Chinese birth control concepts,it explores the different discourses between China and the West in terms of fertility concepts, life autonomy, and feminism.Since ancient times, the issue of birth control has been discussed in various ways around the world. The"restriction of childbirth" movement studied in this article is also an important part of the history of birth control. As population and fertility issues become increasingly entangled with the rights and interests of the nation-state,fertility issues have become a highly politicized issue. What’s more different from the past is that the movement of "restriction of childbirth"was gradually developed under the influence of the women’s liberation movement in the 20 th century. The theory of "restriction of child birth" was spread from Mrs.Sanger to modern China, and the popular "revolutionary narrative" at that time ","female narrative" has a new chemical reaction,so it has a unique place.Compared with the past, during the period of the New Culture Movement, topics such as "restriction of childbirth",which originally belonged to the private sphere, were more often discussed and argued in the public sphere by the intellectuals of the time.In modern times, birth control has shifted from private to public, from natural selection to national selection and social decision-making.With this transition, the body is socialized, life is politicized, and the impact of the child restraint movement has become more profound. This article hopes to help us clarify many historical and practical issues through in-depth study of this fertility revolution.
