| A large number of studies show that intervention of social work in the protection and assistance of various vulnerable groups, including vulnerable children, has tremendous significance and value. However,in the discussion of the relationship between social work services and child protection in distress, the existing research either emphasize the importance of social workers involved in child protection from a normative point of view,or stress how to protect vulnerable children from a technical path;there is a lack of in-depth exploration or integration of the two approaches. This study attempts to go beyond the existing research and investigate the role and realization mechanism of social work involvement in the protection of vulnerable children with scientific methods through the pilot project on children protection in distress carried out by social work institution M in County H.Specifically, the author uses documentary method, participatory observation method, interview method, and case study method to analyze the pilot project of children protection in distress by social work institution M.Findings show that first, social work involvement in the protection of children in distress has certain positive effects;second, social work can play a better role in the protection by focusing on social support network for the children in distress;third, the constructed social support network works through three paths, namely access of material resources, comfort and support of the mind, and prevention and healing of trauma caused by the distress; With the help of professional social work services, children in distress had obvious changes in personal cognition, behavior, family relation and attitude towards family education. At the same time, the study also finds that there are still some shortcomings in the social work service for the children protection due to various factors, such as low degree of cooperation between the relevant subjects, deviation of the focus of social work intervention, the mismatch of service objects of government and social work institutions.Given these, the author suggests policies such as clarification of professional relations between social worker and children in distress, clarification of relations among government, social work institution and social workers, integration of resources, and policy learning to have a continuing and better effect of social work intervention in protection of vulnerable children. |
