In most Pinyin texts, such as English,French,German, and Spanish, the spaces between words serve as a clear physical division clue, providing readers with obvious visual information, which can be used by readers to segment words. However,in addition to punctuation in modern Chinese texts, there is no clear word boundary mark between words as the basic unit of reading. This is not conducive to guiding readers to the best gaze position, and is not conducive to improving the efficiency of vocabulary recognition, thereby reducing Reading speed. In addition, word segmentation in Chinese reading can also improve the reading speed of difficult texts. For example, finding appropriate spaces between words can improve the reading speed and accuracy of unfamiliar or difficult texts. Therefore, this study mainly uses eye trackers to investigate the impact of text difficulty and word segmentation training on college students’ text reading, aiming to reveal the processing mechanism of word segmentation in Chinese reading, and to provide empirical evidence for the Chinese visual word recognition model to a certain extent.Although studies have explored whether word segmentation information can promote the reading efficiency of children with dyslexia,it has not explored the effect of text difficulty on their reading speed and the differences between normal adults. In this study,an eye tracker was used to investigate the impact of word segmentation on the reading of texts of different difficulty levels. In order to eliminate the influence of unfamiliar spaces on text reading, this experiment uses word segmentation training to further explore the effect of word segmentation on reading efficiency.Experiment 1 explored the influence of text difficulty on text reading speed and other eye movement indicators through text presentation(space segmentation, normal no segmentation)and text difficulty(difficult, easy);Experiment 2 divided the subjects into experimental groups and The control group and the experimental group conducted space segmentation text training to explore the effect of word segmentation training on the text reading speed and other eye movement indicators of college students. The results of Experiment 1 show that the accuracy and reading speed of difficult texts are significantly lower than simple texts, and the fixation time, number of fixations and average saccade distances of difficult texts are higher than those of simple texts;texts without spaces have faster reading speed and more fixation times Less, the average saccade distance is shorter, but the average fixation time of text without spaces is significantly longer than text with spaces. The results of Experiment 2 show that the accuracy rate of difficult texts is significantly lower than that of simple texts, and the difficulty of texts has no significant effect on readers’ reading speed;the total fixation time and average fixation time of difficult texts are significantly higher than simple texts, and the number of fixations is more. The skipping distance is smaller;the readers have slower reading speed, shorter average fixation time, longer average saccade distance, and no significant difference in total fixation time when reading text with spaces, but the number of fixations for text without spaces is more than that of text with spaces. The results showed that the difficulty of text had a significant effect on word recognition and saccade processing. After a period of word segmentation training, adult readers’ reading speed and eye movement control mode changed to some extent.
