| Body images reflects people’s cognitive evaluation and emotional attitude towards the body.Clarifying the influencing factors of body images is of great significance to improving individual body satisfaction and self-identity.Researchers believe that although body images is an internal subjective evaluation of individuals,it can be affected by many external factors,among which interpersonal communication plays a key role.There have been many researches on the relationship between body images and social support,social avoidance and interpersonal relationship quality and interpersonal communication behavior.But less research has been done on interpersonal skills(social skills).According to the "mirror self" theory,individual self-concept(including physical self)is mainly formed and developed in the process of social interaction and communication,which requires individuals to have good social skills.In addition,clinical studies have shown that patients with social anxiety disorder and body images disorder share similar cognitive mechanisms and attentional bias,and patients with comorbidities often have earlier onset of social anxiety symptoms,suggesting that lack of social skills may be a risk factor for body images problems.Therefore,the relationship between social skills and body images needs to be further explored.In this study,questionnaire survey was used to explore the influence of social support factors on body images from the perspective of social skills.Using the College Students’ Social Skills Scale,Social Support Rating Scale,Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionnaire investigated some higher education park of Hangzhou,525 college students’ social skills,social support and the present situation of body images,through to explore the relationship between the three,constructs the structural equation model,Multi-cohort analysis was used to compare the differences of the model in different gender groups.The main conclusions are as follows:1.The body image level of college students is poor,and the evaluation and satisfaction of the body are low.There were significant differences in body image among gender,educational background,major and region.2.There is a significant positive correlation between college students’ social skills and body image;Social skills and social support have significant positive correlation;There was a significant positive correlation between social support and body image.3.Social support played a partial mediating role in the influence of social skills on body images.4.There are differences in the body images model among cross-gender groups.In the two paths of social skill → social support and social skill → body images,the path coefficients of the female group are significantly higher than that of the male group.In general,the body images level of college students is low,and there is still a large room for improvement.Compared with male college students,body images of female students is more negative.College students with higher levels of social skills and social support also had better body image.Social skills can influence body image directly or indirectly through social support.In addition,social skills have a stronger effect on social support and body image of female college students than male college students. |
