| With the continuous expansion of China’s economic scale, the material conditions of residents’ lives have been greatly improved, basic needs have been guaranteed, and the satisfaction of spiritual needs has gradually become a higher goal pursued by people, and subjective happiness as a comprehensive indicator to measure personal spiritual and emotional feelings has been concerned by scholars. In the process of seeking how to effectively improve the subjective well-being of residents, the popularity of Internet applications provides us with new ideas. As a new type of information tool, the Internet not only enriches people’s daily work life and strengthens the connection between people, but also has an impact on residents’ subjective well-being.However,the mechanism of Internet use affecting residents’ subjective well-being has not yet been clarified, and it needs further research on what path it affects subjective well-being and whether the impact on different groups is different.Based on Xi Jinping’s view of happiness,Maslow’s demand theory, social identity theory and social comparison theory, this paper analyzes the influence mechanism of Internet use on residents’ subjective well-being from the perspectives of social status identity and mental health, puts forward 13 research hypotheses, and establishes a theoretical model of the influencing factors of residents’ subjective well-being.Based on the data of China Household Longitudinal Survey(CFPS2020),the structural equation model and multi-group analysis method were used to empirically study the constructed theoretical model, measure and analyze the impact of Internet use on residents’ subjective well-being,and explore the moderating effect of basic demographic characteristics. The study found that:(1)Internet use has an overall positive impact on residents’ subjective well-being,that is,Internet use will make residents feel happier, the direct effect is 0.243,and the total effect is 0.242.Among them, social status identity and mental health play a part of the mediating role: on the one hand,Internet use reduces residents’ sense of social status identity and reduces residents’ subjective well-being,and its indirect impact effect is-0.045;on the other hand,Internet use will also improve residents’ subjective well-being by affecting residents’ mental health, and its indirect impact effect is 0.044.(2)The impact of Internet use on subjective well-being among residents of different genders, different ages, different educational backgrounds, different regions, different marital status, and different household registrations was significantly different, and the improvement of subjective well-being on subjective well-being was more significant among males,middle-aged,western regions, spouses, high school education or above, and residents with agricultural household registration. The significant moderating effect of the above variables in the structural equation model is verified. Finally, the paper puts forward policy suggestions to improve residents’ subjective happiness from the aspects of improving Internet penetration, increasing attention to residents’ mental health, purifying Internet space, and developing good Internet habits. |
