The Influence Of Family Intimacy On Internet Addiction Tendency Of Rural Junior High School Students:The Mediating Role Of Perceived Social Support And Self-esteem

With the rapid development of the Internet,the problem of Internet addiction is becoming more and more serious,and the susceptible to Internet addiction in our country often begins with junior high school students aged 13-14.Internet addiction has many negative effects on the physical and mental development of junior high school students.With the development of the rural economy and the popularization of the Internet,rural areas have gradually become the hardest hit areas for Internet addiction among junior high school students.Family intimacy refers to the emotional connection between family members.Studies have shown that it is closely related to the tendency of adolescents to addiction to the Internet.This study explores the status quo and related relationships of rural junior high school students’ Internet addiction tendency,family intimacy,perceived social support,and self-esteem,and constructs the mediating role of perceived social support and self-esteem in the relationship between family intimacy and rural junior high school students’ Internet addiction tendency Based on this model,suggestions are made for the management of junior high school students in rural areas,in order to provide a reference for preventing and reducing the Internet addiction tendency of junior high school students.In this study,650 junior high school students were selected from two rural junior high schools in Taoyuan County,Hunan Province in a convenient sampling method;the Chinese Internet Addiction Scale,Family Intimacy Scale,Perceived Social Support Scale,and Self-Esteem Scale were used for measurement.The results of the study found:(1)There are significant differences in the Internet addiction tendency of rural junior high school students in gender,grade,whether they are boarding or whether they are left-behind.Among them,boys’ Internet addiction tendencies are significantly higher than those of girls;the third grade students are significantly higher than the first and second grade students;the boarding students are significantly higher than non-boarding students;the left-behind junior high school students are significantly higher than the non-left-behind junior high school students;(2)There are significant differences in the family intimacy of rural junior high school students in terms of grade,whether they are single parent,whether they are boarding,and whether they are left-behind.The family intimacy of the second-year students is significantly higher than that of the first-and third-year students;non-boarding students are significantly higher than boarding students,junior high school students from single-parent families are significantly lower than those from non-single-parent families,and left-behind junior high school students are significantly lower than non-left-behind junior high school students;(3)There are significant differences in the perceived social support of rural junior high school students in whether they are single parents or whether they are left-behind.Junior high school students from single-parent families have significantly lower perceived social support than those from non-single-parent families,and left-behind junior high school students are significantly lower than non-left-behind junior high school students;(4)There are significant differences in the self-esteem of rural junior high school students in whether to stay behind,and the self-esteem of left-behind junior high school students is significantly lower than that of non-left-behind junior high school students;(5)Family intimacy is significantly negatively correlated with Internet addiction tendency of rural junior high school students.Perceived social support,self-esteem,and family intimacy are all significantly positively correlated,and they are all significantly negatively correlated with Internet addiction tendency;(6)Perceived social support and self-esteem play a part of the mediating role between family intimacy and Internet addiction tendencies of rural junior high school students.The results show that a high level of family intimacy is important.It can directly affect the Internet addiction tendency of rural junior high school students,and it can also improve rural junior high school students’ perceived social support and self-esteem.High-perceived social support and high self-esteem can reduce the tendency of rural junior high school students to addiction to the Internet,and play a protective role in the physical and mental health of rural junior high school students.
