In the diversified insurance market competition, the commercial health insurance has always assumed the role of providing protection for the life and health of Chinese citizens, and also contributed to the rapid development of China’s insurance industry. However, with the adjustment of the birth policy and the seventh census, the population structure of our country has changed greatly. Some scholars find that population factor is one of the important factors affecting insurance demand. However,in combination with the differences in actual situations, the impact will have different directions and intensity. Therefore, this paper focuses on the heterogeneity of the impact on the demand of commercial health insurance based on the impact of population structure on the demand.Firstly, after clarifying the scope of the research, using the theory of utility,Grossman’s health needs theory, the hypothesis of human heterogeneity, and the theory of population structure as the theoretical basis, this dissertation bases the population structure on the natural, social and geographical attributes of the population.Three structural subdivisions with outstanding trends were selected. It also elaborated the mechanism of the impact of different structural levels on the demand for commercial health insurance, and proposed the possibility of heterogeneity.Secondly,it studies the changing trend of China’s population structure and analyzes the current situation of the demand for commercial health insurance in China.Based on the above theoretical basis and literature review,it is confirmed that demographic changes can have an impact on commercial health insurance.Thirdly, this paper selects the dynamic panel data of 30 provinces and cities in China from2009 to 2019 and the corresponding quantitative indicators to conduct empirical modeling. The regression model is a fixed effect model determined by F test and Hausmann test. The empirical part investigates the heterogeneity of the impact of demographic transformation on the demand for commercial health insurance. The sources of the heterogeneity involve the differences between different regions of economic development, different years of policy conditions and different income groups. The research results show that there is indeed a heterogeneous impact on the child dependency ratio and education level.Under the impact and support of policies, the degree of social security coverage will no longer hinder the development of commercial health insurance, and will obviously stimulate demand.Aging is more influential than declining birthrates.Commercial health insurance needs. In this regard, this article recommends that the government seize the dividends of policy reforms, popular science insurance and parenting knowledge, and suggest that insurance companies seek cooperation with social insurance to diversify the development of children’s health insurance products.
