Funding is the most direct material basis for the development of higher education.Although the investment in higher education is constantly increasing,in the context of rapid economic development in China,the funding structure of universities will inevitably undergo corresponding adjustments and changes.With the promulgation of the "Measures for Information Disclosure in Colleges and Universities",Chinese colleges and universities have successively released annual final accounts report,which provide a data basis for studying the impact of the funding structure of double-first-class universities on school performance.First of all,the research collects the annual final accounts report on the funding structure of 32 double-first-class universities from 2015 to 2020,and analyzes the funding structure of the obtained data at different levels.It is divided into the overall investment and distribution of funds.The total amount of funding reflects the degree of resource acquisition of the university,mainly including the total expenditure and total income.The structure of university funding and income reflects the sources and channels of various funding income outside the university,the structure of educational funding expenditure reflects the allocation of resources within the university.The study found that the total amount of funds of double first-class universities varies greatly between schools and between regions;the structure of income present a binary situation,the fiscal appropriation from government and the income from the undertakings are the main source of the structure of income,and the proportion of income from the undertakings gradually exceeds the proportion of fiscal appropriation;The structure of expenditure is illogicality and unified,it also shows serious convergence in different school.Secondly,on the basis of the existing scholars’ proof that the funding structure is related to the university performance,two different school-running performance index systems are used to carry out a regression analysis on the funding structure and school-running performance of double-first-class universities.The analysis results show that the total income and total expenditure of the university funds have a significant role in promoting school performance,and the impact coefficient of total expenditure is greater than that of total income.The increase in the proportion of government financial appropriation is not conducive to the improvement of school performance,and the increase in the proportion of income from the undertakings and other income has a promoting effect.The expenditure items of the funds are not related to the school performance,because the expenditure items are vague in the public final accounts report of the university.Through empirical analysis,this paper demonstrates the influence of the funding structure of double first-class universities on school performance.Finally,based on the above analysis of the current situation of the funding structure of double-first-class universities and the impact on school performance,this paper proposes according to the research results: in the process of building double-first-class universities,the university’s fundraising ability should be improved.Not only the source of funding should be paid attention to,but also to optimize the expenditure items of funds.At the same time,universities should uphold the concept of sustainable development,implement performance grants to enhance the competitiveness of double-first-class universities,develop university social donations,enhance the university’s "self-hematopoietic" ability,and get rid of the over-reliance on the government and students.Finally,double first-class universities should pay attention to the construction of information disclosure platforms,reflect the university funding structure as comprehensively as possible,and facilitate the supervision and research of the public and academia.
