| With the development of the game industry,for hundreds of millions of players around the world,games are not simply a platform to provide entertainment,but also a new medium for establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships.According to Goffman’s Dramaturgical Theory,the player’s performance in the game space can be seen as a basic strategy for the player to develop interpersonal interaction,such as the player’s avatar,nickname,and game performance in the game.Based on this background,this thesis focuses on the self-presentation and communication behavior of the players,trying to analyze the player’s self-presentation method and purpose in the game,and explore the impact of self-presentation on players’ online interpersonal communication and social communication in reality.In this way,the internal mechanism of image construction and social interaction in the games are revealed,so to create a safer and healthier environment for the establishment of interpersonal relationships.After completing the participatory observation of game player groups and in-depth interviews with players,based on previous investigation and other scholar’s researches,a questionnaire was designed for game players’ self-presentation and interpersonal communication.Through the analysis of the questionnaire data,it is found that the players’ attention to their self-presentation in the game,the player’s self-disclosure and the player’s group participation will positively affect the player’s online relationship,while the changes of players’ game performance have no impact.As for their offline relationships,changes in the player’s game performance,self-presentation attention,selfdisclosure,and group participation have a significant positive impact,while changes in the online relationship negatively affect offline relationships.This thesis analyzes the characteristics of players’ game performance and the characteristics of players’ online and offline interpersonal communication.1.Players’ motivations for self-presentation can be divided into personal needs and group influences.Among them,the display of game skills and social relationship are driven by the player’s personal self-realization and social needs,while the display of game wealth is largely stimulated by other players,in order to show off.2.The social disparity pattern in the game can be divided into three circles: intimacy circle,acquaintance circle and interesting circle,according to the closeness and distance of the player’s social relationship and the frequency of interaction.Game social networking can simultaneously realize the two positive functions of establishing new social connections and stabilizing existing social connections,while the later function plays a more important role.At the end,this thesis summarized the negative impact of game socialization on interpersonal communication.Combined with the current situation of game development and the prospect of technological development,the following ways to improve the social environment in the game are proposed:(1)Enrich players’ ways to express their personality;(2)Use digital governance combined with manual feedbacks to improve the interactive supervision mechanism;(3)Connect the inside world and outside world of the game,and establish a closed social loop. |
