The Study Of Sketch Style Orchestration In 18～(th)-19～(th) Cencury

Based on defining orchestration style and the methods of orchestration analysis,by summarizing and comparing the major orchestration styles-sketch style andcolor painting style, the author specilizes the characteristic of sketch style in bothconcept and technic-the function of timbre is dependent . The word Sketch isborrowed from the art of Sketch in painting. And in some important books about orchestration the words which are similar to it are mentioned to stamp the orchestration of classical period, which has never had a current and rooted definition.The development of orchestration in 18^th -19^th century is really important in the whole history of orchestration. On one hand, after the exploration in large-scale instrumental structure which was aroused by the gradual advance of orchestra had been done, how to realize the expressive force of orchestra became the next step to the composers. On the other hand, while accepted the mature harmony system and the great power it offered, the unsatisfiable composers were attracted by the new constituted technique of orchestration and the new problem how to make the orchestra speak in its own way. Then, they began to pay attention to orchestration seriously, in which the sketch style is just one of the most importance. But, just as the situation of sketch in painting, the sketch style orchestration has always been ignored by some investigators just because its 'primary'. By analyzing orchestration of therepresentative composers of sketch style-Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert,Mendelssohn, Brahms-in both technique and the cause of formation, the authortries to illustrate the existence and sense of the sketch style of orchestration.Based on dissertating the context of society and history, aesthetics tendency, and their functions on orchestration and orchestration style in 3 periods, according to which sketch style experienced sprouting Baroque period, blooming Classical period and fading Romantic period, the author analyzes the orchestration of these composers one by one from instrument contained, the way timbre presented, to the manner that...
