Paul·Dukas, who enjoys equal popularity with Claude Debussy and MauriceRavel, is the representative of the French impressionist music. The maintopic of this research is to explore from the orchestral works means oforchestration expression.This thesis took the four works by Dukas for instance,and make themcarefully and in detail analysis. The paper consists of four chapters:The first chapter is about the composer Paul·Dukas’s life, musicalcreation and theory works. The second chapter is the introduction to worksof musical source material in its present avatar. The third chapter includestwo parts,the part one introduces the characteristic timbre of each groupof musical instrument;another part is discusses writing feature of theorchestral figured texture. The fourth chapter focuses on the applicationof diversified timbre arrangement in the works and so on. Thereby fullyemerged Dukas’s unique techniques and instruments style in thisorchestration field, and established this specific‘Impressionism’musicalstyle belongs exclusively to the him as well.Paul·Dukas’s orchestral works was different from the Debussy and asdistinguished from the Ravel,he is authentically one of the magneticcomposers with‘Individual Creation’.
