A Modern Construction Of Traditional Painting

David Hockney,one of the most influential contemporary artists in Britain,whose artistic creation involves painting,printmaking,photo collage,stage design,video installation,digital media creation and many other fields,has received systematic academic art education at Bradford School of Art since 1953,and obtained adequate artistic creation experience.Although Hockney's main creative methods are still based on traditional paintings,his concepts continue to advance as years passed.In daily life and work,Hockney insists on his unique way of appreciation,constantly maintains curiosity about art,and actively explores himself in different cultural fields and absorb nutrition from each aspect.Hockney's paintings are not only large in number,but involve a lot of painting subjects and artistic media.Its main reason is that Hockney has been influenced by a variety of art movements and genres,during his painting career of more than half a century,include academicism,Eustonroad School,kitchen sink school,abstract expressionism,pop art,graffiti art,London school,photorealism,cubism,brutalism,and so on.Simultaneously,there are dozens of artists who play a direct role in promoting Hockney's artistic creation.They are not only the artistic masters of the early Renaissance,but also the contemporary artists,who make Hockney's paintings have a more diverse artistic appearance than ordinary painters.The long time span and rich experience have exactly render Hockney become living fossils in art circle at that time.In contast to his deep changeful background,Hockney,pursues the visual freshness,joy and enjoyment,whose paintings always maintain high-purity color tiling,simple picture composition,bright colors,profound space and other painting characteristics.Where Hockney is concerned,his growth experience,artistic development course and expression methods are really worthy of being offered sight into.The writing of this paper is an exploration on the diverse facets of Hockney's paintings,ranging from traditional painting to contemporary art,and has gained public recognition for this phenomenon.Chapters 3 and 4 are the main parts of this article.They analyze Hockney's artistic style and causes,from two aspects:"newness of viewing" and "newness of pluralism",namely,the newness of the concept of artistic creation and the pluralism of artistic practice.Based on the acquisition of solid techniques of traditional painting and the research and development of new media and techniques,this paper takes Hockney's main artistic achievements,artistic concepts and multiple creative practices as research objects.I have read a lot of domestic and foreign literature about Hockney,and deeply explored the value of Hockney's artistic style.Hockney's art creation is the inheritance and improvement of traditional painting,and has created rich artistic results in the continuous exploration of creative skills and media.Presently,Chinese contemporary art trends have learned and innovated from western contemporary art trends,different from previous pure traditional paintings.Taking Hockney as a research object,it enlightens the confusion of domestic art practitioners and gives guidance to the direction of art development.Both his dedication to art and his curiosity to explore art are worthy of our study and reference.And the beauty of his works deserves more research significance.
