This study takes a painting of Edward Burne-Jones as the starting point of case study.Firstly,in the introduction,the basic status quo and research background of Burne-Jones case study at home and abroad are briefly introduced.The first chapter discusses how Burne-Jones borrowed Botticelli’s Venus image from the watercolor 《Sibylla Cumana》 and how he build a new visual logic.The second chapter synthesizes the classical literature and image resources and evaluates the status and inheritance of the image of the Sibyl while transforming its connotation.The third chapter explores the communication relationship between the analyzed paintings and the brunch love between Burne-Jones and his lover Maria Zambaco and its positioning in similar images.At the same time,this paper briefly analyzes the artist’s view of women and the general anxiety of the literary and artistic groups at that time.Finally,through the methodology of Lacan’s psychoanalysis to explores the traumatic core of the unconscious subject and analyzes the operating principle of the artist’s desire.
