Learning Chinese has created a global heat wave,which has far-reaching implications for neighboring Southeast Asian countries,especially Thailand,where the number of people learning Chinese is increasing.With the in-depth development of Sino-Thai friendly relations and the increasing frequency of economic and trade exchanges,Thailand began to cooperate with the National Hanban Office in 2003.In addition,Chinese language teaching was officially established in 2005 as a national education policy in Thailand.At present,Chinese has become one of the most studied foreign languages in Thailand,and Thailand has also become the country with the largest number of Chinese volunteer teachers sent each year.The vigorous development of Chinese teaching in Thailand cannot be separated from the joint efforts of both sides but also pay special tribute to Thailand’s Princess Sirindhom,who takes the lead in the promotion of Chinese language teaching in Thailand and is the living link of Sino-Thai exchanges.Most importantly,she has made great contributions to the promotion of Chinese teaching.Today,Thai learners’ need for Chinese learning has changed from traditional Chinese learning to a higher level and more diversified learning not only to learn Chinese language but also to understand Chinese culture.As the carrier of the dissemination of Chinese culture,Chinese literature reflects the historical changes,social patterns,cultural customs and national characteristics of China for thousands of years.Therefore,to understand Chinese culture systematically and comprehensively in order to understand Chinese literature,we must have suitable Chinese literature teaching materials situated in Thailand.Chinese literature teaching materials are a ladder for Thai Chinese learners to improve their literary literacy and a mirror to understand the Chinese culture,too.Chinese literature courses are generally offered in Thai universities,and Thai universities have become the main camp for Chinese literature courses,which give Chinese learners comprehensive understanding of Chinese literary knowledge and cultural traditions.I was fortunate to become a Chinese volunteer teacher in Thailand in 2019.Through the ten-month Chinese teaching work at Udon Thani Rajabhat University in Thailand,I learned about the use of localized literary textbooks in Thai universities.The analysis of the localized Thai literature textbook"Introduction to Chinese Literature" used by the Chinese major at Udon Thani Rajabhat University was aimed to accomplished this study.This paper analyzed and evaluated the advantages and disadvantages of the textbook from the aspects of teaching style,teaching content and usage with a view to provide some opinions and suggestions on the compilation of Chinese literature teaching materials in localized colleges and universities in Thailand so that the teaching materials can play a better role as a bridge between students and teachers in order to maximize the advantages and functions of the teaching materials,achieve better teaching results and improve the Chinese language and cultural knowledge of Chinese learners.Started from "Introduction to Chinese Literature," a textbook on Chinese literature localized in Thai universities,I found that the teaching material has some shortcomings,such as the inaccurate teaching material,typos,nonstandard statement expressions,lack of after-school practice and new words explanation,lack of necessary Thai comments,the separation of the relationship between works and literary history,and so on.In conclusions,for the compilation of localized Chinese literature textbooks in Thai universities,we should not only take full account of the characteristics of the Thai educational system and students’ personalities but also grasp the basic principles of teaching materials as well as learning characteristics of Thai students and constantly strengthen the training of teachers in terms of preparation of Chinese literature teaching materials,which reflects the rigor and objectivity of teaching materials.The evaluation of localized Chinese literature textbooks in Thai colleges and universities from the perspective of both literary history and the style of textbook compilation is to see if the design of the textbook is reasonable,to reflect the characteristics of localization,to consider the students’ existing literary knowledge and to carry out the comparison of Chinese and Thai literature.In short,a successful localized Chinese literature textbook in Thai colleges and universities should satisfy both students’ learning and teachers’teaching. |
