"Founding Monthly" Research (1929-1937)

In 1928,the Fifth Plenary Session of the 2rd Central Committee of Kuomintang declared the end of the "Military and Political Period" and the beginning of the "Political Tutelage Stage".With the banner of "Rule by a Political Party",Chiang Kai-shek announced the policy of "Military and Political Unity" and "Implementation of political tutelage".Against this backdrop,a number of newspapers and periodicals emerged to propagate the thought of political tutelage and discuss the construction of the state.Though Founding Monthly was used to advocate the thought of political tutelage at that time as a unique periodical,a lack of special research on the propaganda and thoughts was conducted in the history field.In the article,the author takes Founding Monthly as the object,sorts out and summarizes the overall situation of the periodical,investigates its main idea and displays the social and historical situation reflected by the periodical in a comprehensive and objective manner from the dialectical perspective of historical development.Founding Monthly is composed of two parts.The first part is about the party building of Kuomintang,which includes the further interpretation of the " Principles of People's Livelihood ","Principles of Democracy" and "Principles of Nationalism" in the "Three Principles of the People" as well as the data collection and research of the party history of Kuomintang.The second part is about the thought of national construction which includes the thought of national governance as well as of the economic,cultural development and so on during the political tutelage stage.As far as the content is concerned,Founding Monthly is in conformity with the feature of political comprehensive journals.The articles covers a wide range of fields with certain timeliness and professionalism,playing an important role in the introduction of some emerging theories and state-building program as well as in the state construction and national development.However,limited by the age and class characteristics,Founding Monthly shows its tendency to propagate the Kuomintang ideology,denounce communism and lack of insistence on the dependence of press.
