The translation material is selected from The Uncertain Future of American Public Higher Education(Chapter 3-4).The third chapter focuses mainly on the credit system of private higher education and its disadvantages,and the forth chapter centers on lifelong tenure system and points out that the system is the most harmful way to the protection of academic freedom in the United States.This text is professional and has significant academic research value.The sentence structure of the text contains a large number of parallel structures,parentheses and attributive clauses,which makes the sentence structure of the original text rich and detailed.The author mainly analyzes the translation practice from lexical and syntactic perspectives.In terms of lexical perspective,according to the characteristics of the text,the author found that there are a large number of professional terms and compound adjectives.So the author puts forward and summarizes some translation methods,such as word extension,figurative structure and ellipsis.From a syntactic perspective,the author puts forward some translation methods aiming at the parallelism rhetoric such as specific meaning,conversion.Therefore,we can draw lessons from the current situation and solutions of foreign higher education by translating this kind of text,so as to provide enlightenment for our higher education research and reference for future translation of similar articles.
