Linguistics And The Language Of Translation (Chapter 5) English-Chinese Translation Practice Report

The original translation material is selected from Linguistics and the Language of Translation(Chapter 5).It discusses words and meanings in translation,such as the concept of words,the relationship between words and translation,the classification of words,and the semantic relations between words.In the process of translation,adverbs ending with “-ly” appear very frequently in the text.Therefore,the report takes adverbs ending with “-ly” as the part of research content.Based on the analysis of the adverbs ending with “-ly”,the report chooses four translation techniques,including the combination,the conversion,the extension and the division.In addition,the author finds that the relationship between metaphor and lexical flexibility is expounded at great length in the text,so the report takes the translation of metaphorical words as the part of the research content.The report discusses the problems encountered in the text and puts forward solutions,which plays an active role in improving the efficiency and quality of translation.Meanwhile,it also provides some reference for the study of adverb translation techniques in the future.
