The political relationship between the Soviet Union and democratic Yemen in the context of the Cold War is a development that the two countries have experienced from contact to friendly cooperation to the breakdown of the relationship under the mutual superimposed influence of the in-depth consideration of national interests, geopolitics, and major power factors such as the United States. The evolution trajectory is also a relatively important model of the evolution of relations between large and small countries in international relations. The evolution of this relationship not only had a greater impact on the two countries, but also had a certain impact on the situation in the Middle East and the Cold War situation. The first chapter mainly discusses the political contacts between the Soviet Union and South Yemen President Shabi and Rubay during their tenures(1967-1978).Among them, during the period of President Shabi, the Soviet Union's diplomatic recognition and military and economic assistance made South Yemen gradually fall to the Soviet Union, and "the Soviet Union obtained the right to land in South Yemen on the way to the Indian Ocean and neighboring countries";Ruba During the Iraqi presidential period, the relationship between the Soviet Union and democratic Yemen was further developed, but it was also shaken by the events in the Middle East, the Indian Ocean, and the infighting of the ruling party of democratic Yemen. The second chapter focuses on the establishment and consolidation of friendly relations with the Soviet Union during the tenure of President Ismail and President Ali Nasser(1978-1986).Among them, during the period of President Ismail, the Soviet Union and democratic Yemen established friendly relations by signing a treaty of friendship and cooperation for 20 years, and the two sides entered the honeymoon period;during the period of President Ali Nasser, the above-mentioned treaty of friendship and cooperation continued to be implemented. The Soviet Union and democracy Yemen still maintains close ties. The third chapter mainly discusses the breakdown and influence of the friendly relations between the Soviet Union and democratic Yemen(1986-1990).Affected by Gorbachev's new thinking, the civil war in democratic Yemen, and the internal and external factors of the dramatic changes in the Soviet Union in Eastern Europe, the friendly relations between the Soviet Union and democratic Yemen eventually broke down. The interaction between the Soviet Union and democratic Yemen for more than two decades has enabled the Soviet Union to increase its influence in the Indian Ocean and weaken the influence of the West and the United States with the help of the anti-Western sentiment in the Middle East.
