Zhang Hong Landscape Painting Research

The landscape paintings of Zhang Hong,which had drove the development of this art by the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty,marked the way forward for the following generations and also influenced the modern artists deeply,while most of the artists in late Ming Dyansty,effected by the “Theory of Southern and Northern Schools” raised by Dong Qichang,were learning from the ancient masters and copying their works.This trend of copying blinded the painters from the essence of art: “Externally,learn from the nature;Internally,learn from your heart”,so that they focused only on brushing skills in their routine works.However Zhang Hong as the most important artist of the Wu School in Late Ming Dynasty,strongly rejected this trend and opened a new genre of realistic paining.He focused on life details and presented the views met in his eyes in his unique landscape paintings in a natural way.He also polished and innovated the brushing skills and even combined the artistic features of western paintings into the Chinese ones.He had created unique artistic conceptions for the landscape paintings of late Ming Dynasty and brought this traditional art into a whole new level.The previous research on Zhang Hong's landscape paintings mainly focused on the textual research of his works,or on painting style,ink and color,etc.The research on the artistic conception of his worksand the development and evolution of painting style was relativelysmall.This article will systematically conduct comprehensive research on Zhang Hong's landscape painting from the perspective of Zhang Hong's landscape painting style evolution,artistic expression techniques,and artistic conception creation.This article believes that Zhang Hong's landscape painting can be divided into three periods: early,middle and late.lts artistic characteristics are: the main body of the picture is elegant and elegant,the pen and ink coloring is simple and elegant,and the composition is calm and orderly.In terms of artistic conception creation,Zhang Hong uses emotions to create emotions,expresses emotions with scenes,and elevates the natural scene to the artistic conception of the picture,and the picture reflects the aesthetic pursuit of returning to the original nature.In addition,this article has rearranged Zhang Hong's creation chronology and found that nearly 20 paintings have not been mentioned in the past research.At the same time,it has also corrected,supplemented and improved the information related to Zhang Hong's creation chronology compiled by past scholars.
