In the context of the "One Belt and One Road" initiative of China and the "4.0" strategy of Thailand's economy,the "Chinese language fever" continues to heat up.Confucius Institutes have played an important role in promoting the language and cultural exchanges between China and Thailand.In the past 15 years,Confucius Institutes in Thailand have developed steadily and achieved remarkable results.In the process of development,Confucius Institutes in Thailand have explored ways to integrate into the local society.From the perspective of international communication of Chinese,this paper systematically investigates the construction and operation of Confucius Institutes in Thailand,explores the methods for their successful development,finds out the challenges they are facing,and puts forward targeted ideas and suggestions.This paper comprehensively uses database-based analysis,literature method,interview and case analysis,combining quantitative with qualitative research.Chapter One,Introduction;Chapter Two,Thailand Chinese Language Teaching Background and Confucius Institute Overview;Chapter Three,Thailand Confucius Institute Chinese Teaching Situation;Chapter Four,Thailand Confucius Institute Cultural Activities and Key Projects;Chapter Five:Case Study of Confucius Institute at Chulalongkorn University;Chapter Six:Research Conclusions and Ideas.The study found that the geographical distribution of Confucius Institutes in Thailand presented a trend of "centered on the capital and concentrated in different regions".The Chinese and Thai sponsors of the Confucius Institute have educational strength,and they can join forces and complement each other's strengths.In the aspect of Chinese teaching,there are a variety of courses,mainly credit courses,and "Chinese+" project has become a new trend in curriculum construction.In terms of textbooks,the original Chinese textbooks are used at a high rate,and the local textbooks have strong pertinence.The characteristics of local textbooks are more targeted,more primary local textbooks,and fewer textbooks for children.In terms of cultural activities,the frequency is high,the forms are diverse,and the content is rich.The theme series of cultural activities have become boutique activities with brand effect.In terms of the construction of key projects,the Chinese test centers are set reasonably to meet students' test needs.There are more candidates for HSKE,HSK and YCT tests.The training of local Chinese language teachers continues to advance,and each Confucius Institute provides various forms of teacher training programs based on its own resource advantages.This paper points out that:There are differences within the Confucius Institutes in Thailand.For example,the Confucius Institute at Chulalongkom University has both high-end programs and public service programs;the Maritime Silk Road Confucius Institute focuses on cultivating "Chinese+" interdisciplinary talents;the Confucius Institute at Royal Mansund Normal University gives full play to the advantages of normal education and promotes the construction of local teachers;The Confucius Institute at Prince Songkhla University Phuket has adapted to the local economic characteristics to create Chinese courses for tourism and business.Currently,the development of Confucius Institutes in Thailand faces some challenges,including the need to optimize the management system and enrich the teaching resources of "Chinese+"program.Finally,some suggestions are put forward to promote the sustainable development of Confucius Institutes in Thailand.The Chinese and Thai partners should show their respective strengths and play more main responsibilities.Strengthen the construction of teaching materials and teachers for "Chinese+" project;Give full play to the model role of Thai royal family members and the bridge role of social celebrities.
