Relationships Among Mothers' Sense Of Parenting Competence, Parenting Pressure, Psychological Control And Problem Behaviors In Children With Intellectual Disabilities

In the children's growing environment,family factors play a crucial role in the development of children.The mother is the main caretaker of children,and has close relationship with children's behavior development.In this study,246 mothers of children with mental retardation were selected and measured the Parenting Sense of Competence Scale,Parenting Stress Index – Short Form,Mother Psychological Control Questionnaire,and Strengths and Difficulty Questionnaire for the mother's sense of competence,parenting stress,psychological control,and for the problem behavior of intellectual disabilities.childeren.The basic characteristics and relationship between the mother's sense of competence,parenting stress,psychological control,and children's problem behaviors were examined.And the mediating effect between problem behavior and the sense of competence,parenting stress psychological control were further explored.This study draws the following conclusions:(1)Mothers' satisfaction with non-only children is significantly higher than who has only one child.The satisfaction of two generations of households living together is significantly higher than that divorced families.(2)In households with a monthly income of more than 10,000,the mother's parental pressure,difficult children,and parent-child interaction disorders are significantly lower than those with a monthly income of less than 5,000.When intellectual disabilities children are only children,the mother's parental pressure,difficult children and parental stress scores are significantly higher than those of non-single children.The parental pressure and total score of mother with the educational level below junior high school are significantly higher than that of mothers in high school,secondary school or college and bachelor degree or above.(3)Maternal psychological control is significantly higher in boys than in girls in terms of personal attacks.Mothers over the age of 42 were significantly lower than their mothers under the age of 38 in physical attacks,unstable emotions,and withdrawal of love.The psychological control of mothers with different levels of education has significant differences in the withdrawal of love,the guidance of guilt feeling,and the total score of psychological control.(4)The emotional symptoms of children form three generations families are significantly higher than those from the second generation families.There are significant differences in the conduct problem of the family in different family economic situations.Intellectual disabilities children's emotional symptoms,peer relationships,and difficult total scores also have significant differences in the level of mother's education.Boys' hyperactivity attention and behavior problems were significantly higher than for girls.(5)There was a significant positive correlation between maternal parenting stress,mother's psychological control and intellectual disabilities children's problem behavior,and there was a significant negative correlation between maternal sense of competence and children's behavioral problems.There was a significant negative correlation between maternal parenting competence and maternal parenting stress.There was a significant positive correlation between maternal parenting stress and mother's psychological control.(6)Maternal parenting stress and psychological control play a complete mediating role between the maternal sense of competence and the problematic behavior of intellectual disabilities children.
