Datong is the northernmost city in Shanxi.It is located at the junction of the three provinces of Shanxi,Hebei and Mongolia.Since ancient times,it has been a border fortress for exchanges between the North and the Central Plains.According to literature research: During the Warring States Period,King Zhao Wuling included Datong(the Daijun at the time)under the jurisdiction of the Zhao Kingdom.The county was founded in the Qin and Han dynasties,and it has a history of more than2,200 years since the founding of the city.Today,the old city of Datong basically retains the appearance of the city during the Ming and Qing Dynasties.According to research,the "Six Towns Uprising" after the Northern Wei Dynasty turned Pingcheng into ruins.The military" exercised jurisdiction over Yunzhou and other places.The Liao and Jin Dynasty basically followed the layout without much change.Therefore,the layout of Yunzhou City in the Tang Dynasty continued to this day [the layout of the old city of Datong and the characteristics of the times reflected in it].This article will look at the Datong city from the Tang to Liao and Jin periods from the old city of Datong today through the methods of tracing from the present to the ancient times.It is hoped that I can understand the layout of the Datong city from the Tang to Liao and Jin periods.
