Linguistic Analysis Of The Names Of Residential Areas In Guangzhou

This paper takes the names of 2,411 residential areas established after 1949 in Guangzhou as the research object.From the perspectives of language and culture,this paper adopts the methods of combining description with explanation,analysis with induction,quantitative analysis with qualitative analysis to make a multi-dimensional exploration.In order to find out the language characteristics,cultural connotation,characteristics of The Times and potential problems of naming,trying to provide reference for the naming of residential areas in the future.The first chapter is the introduction.This paper introduces the reason for selecting the topic,the purpose and significance of the research,the research status of the related topics,and gives a specific explanation of the research situation of the residential areas in Guangzhou,such as the research objects,research methods and the definition of the corpus.The second chapter is the analysis of the language characteristics of residential area names.Based on the analysis of phonetic characteristics and lexical characteristics,it is found that the names of residential areas in Guangzhou are mainly three-syllable and four-syllable,and the final tone tends to be high and rising,and the syllable combination forms are various.The monosyllables in generic names and the odd-even syllables in generic names are mutually selected."Yuan" and "Huayuan" are the most frequently used generic names,while "Wan" is more frequently used than other cities.The collocation tendency of generic modifiers and monosyllables in generic names is different.Among the proper names,"Jing","Jin" and "Hua" are used most frequently,and the collocation and combination of characters have different tendencies,and the composition forms of proper names are various.The third chapter is the cultural characteristics of residential area name.It mainly discusses regional culture,traditional national culture and foreign culture.The characters related to "water","ridge" and "flower" appear in the names of residential areas,which reflect the geographical characteristics of developed water system,hilly mountains and humid and hot climate in Guangzhou.It is common for administrative districts to be named.67.44% of the names of residential areas reflect the traditional ethnic culture,and there is a phenomenon of westernization in the names.The fourth chapter is the analysis of the characteristics of the residential area.Divide into different time period to explore the changing characteristics of names and reflect the social psychology behind.It is found that the naming is obviously influenced by The Times,the six-syllable names have a gradual rising trend,the types of generic names are constantly enriched,the proper names pay more and more attention to the brand effect,the word selection is more diversified,and more and more names reflect the high comfort level of the environment.The fifth chapter is about the problems existing in the naming of residential areas and the corresponding improvement suggestions.It is found that there are some problems in the naming of residential areas in guangzhou,such as high repetition of words,improper use of words,homogenization and untrue name,etc.In order to solve these problems,feasible suggestions are put forward from the perspectives of developers and related departments.The sixth chapter is the conclusion.The content of the article is sorted out,and the conclusions and shortcomings of the research are expounded and reflected.
