This thesis is a translation report based on the translation of proper nouns from English to Chinese which appear on the book Translators Through History. Translators Through History is a book which researches about the history of translation. The scholar named Van Hoof once said that studying the history of translation in this way would be tantamount to rewriting the history of the world, the history of civilization--but from the perspective of translation. For this reason, the difficult point to tackle is the huge number of proper nouns such as names of people, names of places, names about history and so on. This thesis uses the book of Translators through history as an example to classify the proper nouns that have refereed in this book and summarize the tactics of proper noun translation from English to Chinese. It consists of four chapters. The first one is about task description which includes task background and task demands. The second one is about the process to finish the task which includes preparation, translation and proofreading. In the third chapter--case studies the writer analyzes the different kinds of proper nouns and summarizes the strategies for each kind. In the forth chapter, the writer makes some conclusions from the practice of this whole task and hopes through this thesis it can guide the MTI students how to deal the texts which have a lot of proper nouns.
