With Beautiful pictures,subtle words and wonderful stories,English picture books provide real English context for students,and have become an important resource of primary school English reading teaching.However,while encouraging English picture books to enter into the classroom,how to give full play to the situational advantages of English picture books has become a big challenge for front-line teachers.Situational Cognitive Theory emphasizes that knowledge comes from situations and learning takes place in situations,which coincides with the situational nature of English picture books.Therefore,this study studies the application of Situational Cognitive Theory in English picture book reading teaching in primary school.This study takes the students in Tianjin H primary school sixth grade E class as the research object,comprehensively uses the methods of literature,observation,interview and action research,and carries out teaching practice on the basis of understanding the current situation,so as to explore the influence of picture book reading teaching in primary school English based on Situational Cognition Theory on students’ English reading.Firstly,through two rounds of action research,this study integrates the core idea of Situational Cognition Theory into the whole process of picture book reading teaching in primary school,and constructs a teaching mode of situational perception,situational experience,situational deduction and situational reflection.Then,according to the implementation effect,this study combines with classroom observation records and teacher-student interview results,using SPSS to analyze the pre-test and post test results,it is found that picture book reading teaching in primary school English under the guidance of Situational Cognition Theory can improve students’ English reading performance and interest in English reading.Finally,this study analyzes and reflects on the problems in action research,and puts forward some suggestions for the future development of English picture book reading teaching in primary schools from four aspects: English picture book selection,teaching goal design,teaching process arrangement and teaching evaluation.
