An Exploration Of The English Translation Of Shanxi Museum Exhibition Texts From The Perspective Of Cultural Translation

Shanxi Museum gathers the essence of Shanxi Province's cultural relics.It is the most important cultural relic collection,protection,research institution of Shanxi Province.It can be said that it is the historical and cultural epitome of the whole province.With profound cultural connotation,it is the first option for foreign visitors to understand the history and culture of Shanxi Province.The main way for foreign visitorsto obtain related information in the museum isto read the exhibition text.English is a recognized international language,so the quality of the English translation of the exhibition text is very significant.Through field investigation,this paper concludes that there are three major problems in the English version of the exhibition text in Shanxi Museum,which are mainly reflected in three aspects:format inconsistency,cultural translation error and linguistic translation error.This article is based on the Cultural Translation Theory of Susan Bassnett,and takes the three exhibition halls of the Shanxi Museum for example,and compares with the National Museum and Nanjing Museum' s exhibition text.Then in order to make foreign visitors get a better experience and the exhibits more effectively give play to social function,it will summarize the advantages and disadvantages of Shanxi Museum's English version of the exhibition text,and give suggestions for improving the quality of translation of Shanxi Museum' s exhibition text.
