This is a C-E Translation practice study report based on the translation project of Art Exhibition of Guangdong Museum of Art in 2014. The source text aims to introduce GDMoA to the public, and it belongs to Chinese publicity materials. For the research of Chinese publicity material, domestic scholars mainly focus on tourism, corporations and political publicities while they pay little attention to art exhibition materials. Therefore, Newmark’s theory is adopted as the supporting theory to recall translation process, analyze translation difficulties and provide specific translation strategies. In this way, the translated text will be fully polished and well accepted by the public.Firstly, the author recalls the translation process and emphasizes that all of the procedures are indispensable. Since different sections of the source text have different functions, the author proposes that semantic and communicative translation could be used together as the guidance of the report. What’s more, a lot of difficulties have been encountered such as the C-E translation of culture words and phrases, long sentences, non-subject sentences and the organization of exhibitions, so the author has proposed different translation strategies. Literal translation, literal translation with explanation, and free translation can be used to translate culture words and phrases. When it comes to long sentences, translator can adopt the strategies of division, combination and adjustment of sentence structure. For Chinese non-subject sentences, translator can add logical subject, add pronouns and nouns as the subject and adopt passive voice. Besides, the author points out that the communicative translation is suitable for organization translation of exhibitions. Finally, to be a qualified translator, we should not only improve bilingual cultural literacy, but also combine theory with practice. In conclusion, based on the review of translation process and the analysis of translation action, the author intends to provide some useful information for the research of art exhibition translation.
