A Project Report On The C-E Translation Of Exhibition Introductions To Crossing The Yangtze River Campaign Memorial Hall And City Development Museum In Jiangyin

With the continuous progress of China's reform and opening up,more and more cities expect to build various kinds of exhibition halls to show to the outside world their own history and cultural traditions and their achievements in such areas as economy,culture,science and technology.As the name card of a city,the exhibition halls are playing an increasingly important part in the communication between their home cities and the outside world.Therefore,the translation of the exhibition introductions has become particularly important.Although many tourist texts in Chinese including the exhibition introductions have been translated into English and other languages,the quality of translation is still uneven due to the cultural and linguistic differences between China and foreign countries and to the inadequacy in the competence of the personnel involved.If we do not actively summarize the experience and find solutions to the problems,it is bound to restrict the spread of Chinese culture and the further development of Chinese tourism.From December 2018 to February 2019,the author was awarded the chance to participate in the translation of exhibition introductions to Crossing the Yangtze River Campaign Memorial Hall and City Development Museum in the City of Jiangyin in Jiangsu Province.They are aimed at introducing the history,culture,achievements in city development and other tourist attractions of Jiangyin.Stylistically speaking,the texts under translation belongs to the category of tourist text.To be specific,they are characterized by large vocabulary,stylistically refined diction and a variety of sentence patterns.In the process of translation,the author mainly encountered such difficult problems as subtitle translation,idiom and allusion translation,antithesis translation and long sentence translation.Based on this translation practice and under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory,the author analyzes the causes of these difficult problems and explores the corresponding strategies for their solution based on her personal experience in and theoretical thinking on translation,hoping to provide reference for the translation of the texts of the same type.
