"A Brief History Of The Development Of The Drum Set"—the Compilation Practice Of Music Literature Under The Guidance Of Semiotic Theory

Taking the relatively scarce historic materials of drum set in China at this stage as the object,the practice tries to explore a new model of practice by conducting both the compilation and translation processes under the very same semiotic theory.We focus on both the intertextual relationship between selected materials and the establishment of a self-contained meta-language for them.Finally,based on the existing historic texts of popular music,we screened,translated,and edited authoritative English materials through three perspectives: instruments,development of music style,and representative drummers and repertoire,and sorted out a general development of drum set,organized some important terms and pictures,and linked to further literature.The introductory section briefly introduces the development and focus of the music literature compilation profession in China,points out the neglect of "non-performance texts" in the development process,and selects historic materials of drum set as the compilation target,taking into account personal study experience and the current practical needs.Chapter one briefly introduces the history of drum set and reviews the current literature of drum set in China,so as to propose a the literature selection effectively.The second chapter focuses on the theoretical basis of the practice and its advantages.The third and fourth chapters present the specific operation process,including preparation of background information and parallel texts,analysis of operational feasibility,and explain representative cases from three aspects:nomenclature,special rhetoric,and cohesion and coherence of discourse.Chapter 5 is a brief summary and reflection of the project.
